Charlotte FC signed American forward Nimfasha Berchimas on Nov. 17, 2022, as the Club’s second Homegrown player. At the time of his signing, Berchimas was the six-youngest player to sign an MLS contract at 14 years and 268 days old.
Berchimas made his MLS debut in 2024, coming off the bench three times on the year for the First Team. On Feb. 26, the forward came on as a substitute in the Club’s 1-0 victory over NYCFC in the season opener, making him as the first CLTFC Academy player to make an MLS appearance and became the then-ninth youngest player in MLS history to make his debut at 16 years and three days. He spent the majority of the season with the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Crown Legacy FC, where he improved in every aspect of his 2023 campaign. He finished the year having featured in 21 matches and scored six goals, good for third-most on the team.
During Berchimas’ rookie season, he made eight appearances for CLFC, totaling 347 minutes. He made his professional debut on March 26 against Huntsville City FC and scored his first professional goal against New England Revolution on Sept. 17.
Originially from Burundi, Berchimas and his family moved to the United States early in his childhood and the forward joined CLTFC’s Academy in 2020 at 12-years-old from NC Fusion. He has been invited to multiple trials with some of Europe’s largest clubs, such as Bayern Munich and Manchester United. Berchimas has already totaled 27 appearances with the United States Youth National Team squads, having scored eight goals and contributed two assists along the way. The forward led the U.S. U-20 squad to an appearance in the title match of the Concacaf U-20 Championships, where Berchimas scored before falling to Mexico’s U-20 side, 2-1.
2024 (Charlotte FC): MLS Regular Season – Appeared in three matches off the bench, totaling 20 minutes. Made his MLS debut as a substitute in the season opener against NYCFC. (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Featured in 21 matches, starting in 17, totaling 1,522 minutes. Scored six goals, which tied him for third-most on the squad. Tied for first in shots with 44. Second in shots on target with 20. MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs – Started in both of the Club’s matches in the playoffs, totaling 123 minutes.
2023 (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Appeared in eight matches, four starts, totaling 347 minutes. Made his professional debut on March 26 against Huntsville City FC. Scored his first professional goal in the form of a match-winner against New England Revolution II on Sept. 17.
International: Has made 27 appearances across five U.S. Youth National Team squads. Made his youth international debut in an international friendly against Slovenia’s U-15 side. Has scored eight goals and added two assists with the USYNT. Led the U.S. U-20 side to an appearance at the Concacaf U-20 Championship, scoring two goals and adding one assist in a six-match run.
