TV: FS1, TSN, TVAS, Fox Deportes
The Philadelphia Union seek a first-ever Audi MLS Cup Playoffs win when they host the rival New York Red Bulls in a Round One clash at Talen Energy Stadium Oct. 20 at 3 pm ET.
The Union entered the penultimate week of the regular season with a chance to earn the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Instead, they dropped to third after back-to-back losses, including a Decision Day presented by AT&T defeat to New York City FC in Chester. Ronald Matarrita and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi gave the visitors a two-goal lead inside the opening 30 minutes. The Union clawed a goal back on a Marco Fabian penalty kick three minutes from full time. Leading scorer Kacper Przybylko suffered an ankle injury in pregame warmups.
The Red Bulls had an outside chance at finishing fourth and hosting a Round One game, but instead dropped to sixth following a 3-0 loss to the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo on Decision Day. Bojan and Maximiliano Urruti gave the Impact a two-goal lead at the break and Orji Okwonkwo closed out the scoring in the 62nd minute. The Red Bulls were held scoreless in their final two regular season games.
The Union rallied from a two-goal halftime deficit to beat the Red Bulls, 3-2, at Talen Energy Stadium June 8, while New York claimed a 2-0 victory at Red Bull Arena Sept. 22. The winner faces either Atlanta United or the New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Semifinals Oct. 24 at 7:30 pm ET.
