MLS Preseason 2020: Portland Timbers take 3-0 win over CS Herediano

Portland Timbers - CS Hermiano - Preseason

The Portland Timbers stayed perfect in the 2020 preseason, taking a 3-0 result against Costa Rican side CS Herediano on Sunday.

Felipe Mora and Dairon Asprilla each netted for Portland, with the last tally coming on an own goal just before the final whistle. The matchup consisted of four 30-minute periods.

Neither side broke through until the final moments of the second 30-minute period, when the Timbers were awarded an indirect free kick that Mora slotted home past a charging goalkeeper and a wall of defenders in front of goal.

It would stay 1-0 until midway through the final 30-minute period, when Asprilla doubled the advantage with a breakaway finish.

Asprilla would then factor into Portland's third just moments before full time, sending in a cross that deflected off a Herediano defender for an own goal to round out the scoring.

The result moves the Timbers to 3-0-0 during their preseason slate of matches in Costa Rica, coming off a 2-1 result over Saprissa on Feb. 1 and a 3-1 victory over Municipal Grecia on Feb. 5. Portland will now head home to Providence Park for their final three matchups of the preseason, all against MLS opponents, starting with a Cascadia bout with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Feb. 16.
