Welcome back to the TwitBag, my attempt to answer the best questions I get on Twitter with something more than just 140 characters.
This is also a chance to plug Thursday's ExtraTime Live at 2 pm ET, with Andrew Wiebe, David Gass, Ben Baer and former RBNY general manager Ali Curtis. Tune in!
Now onto your questions...

I'm not 100 percent convinced that #DerlisWatch is over. Even if it is, I am about 96 percent convinced the Sounders will be fine for the rest of 2017 – not necessarily outright favorites, but certainly in the group of contenders that can make nose come November and maaaaaybe December.

It also gives them a few more months to decide what they intend to do with Jordan Morris (is he a winger or a forward?) and Clint Dempsey (does he have enough left in the tank to be a DP for one more year?). Those are not insignificant questions

August 9, 2017

NYCFC have, in Tommy McNamara and Khiry Shelton, two reserve attackers with a pretty decent amount of trade value within the league. If Vieira is serious about adding pieces in other spots, he has assets he can cash in pretty easily.

I'm not sure how likely that is, though.

It has them closer to putting together a team that can win games, though outright "success" may still elude them unless they add another backline piece and serious depth on the wing. They need youth and speed out wide, and they need to figure out what went wrong with Steve Birnbaum this year, and they need to see real quick whether rumored acquisition Russell Canouse can lock down the defensive midfield spot at the MLS level.

One of the stories of this season is that older players get "old" faster than they used to as the quality of the league goes up. D.C. held onto their core veterans for a year too long, it seems, as did – for example – LA. It's come back to haunt both teams.

But credit to United for seeing the light and doing what they can to get younger ahead of 2018. That's what this window has been about, and it certainly feels like they're in better shape to move forward than they were a month ago.

Ok folks, thanks for keeping me busy today. Check in tomorrow for a full recap and analysis of all the transfer window news!
