Jesús Ferreira joins Seattle Sounders with "something to prove"
As Seattle Sounders FC sought to bolster their attack this offseason, FC Dallas star Jesús Ferreira sought a change of scenery.
2024 (FC Dallas): Ferreira appeared in 24 matches (16 starts) for Dallas in 2024. He scored five goals and tallied eight assists in all competitions despite battling injuries throughout the year, including two assists in Dallas’ 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run.
2023 (FC Dallas): Ferreira appeared in 34 matches (32 starts) in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and adding nine assists, on top of being named an MLS All-Star for the second consecutive year. He scored his first playoff goal against Seattle in Round One (November 4) and a goal in Leagues Cup 2023 action against Necaxa (July 25), adding three assists during the tournament. His 12 goals during the regular season were the most on the team. He also made two appearances in friendlies for the U.S. Men’s National Team against Mexico and Colombia, scoring a goal against Mexico (April 20), as well as five appearances during the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, scoring seven goals, including hat tricks against St. Kitts and Nevis (June 29) and Trinidad and Tobago (July 3).
2022 (FC Dallas): Ferreira had a breakout year in 2022, winning 2022 MLS Young Player of the Year while being named to the MLS Best XI and voted an MLS All-Star after scoring 18 goals and recording six assists during his 37 appearances (31 starts) in all competitions. His 18 goals led the team and were tied for fourth in MLS. He made 11 appearances (seven starts) for the U.S. Men’s National Team and was selected to the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad, starting his only appearance in Qatar against the Netherlands (December 3). He also scored four goals against Grenada (June 11) during the USMNT’s title-winning 2022-2023 Concacaf Nations League run.
2021 (FC Dallas): Ferreira appeared in 27 matches (26 starts) for Dallas in 2021, scoring eight goals while adding a team-high nine assists. He made four appearances (three starts) for the U-23 USYNT in Olympic qualifying, scoring a game-winning goal against Costa Rica (March 18, 2021). He also started two friendly matches for the United States senior national team, scoring two goals against Trinidad & Tobago (February 1) and appeared in two 2022 World Cup Qualifying matches.
2020 (FC Dallas): Ferreira appeared in 21 matches (14 starts) for Dallas in 2020, tallying one goal and one assist in regular season play. He also earned his United States Men’s National Team debut in a friendly against Costa Rica where he started and played 62 minutes (February 1).
2019 (FC Dallas): Ferreira broke into the starting lineup for Dallas in 2019, appearing in 36 matches (32 starts) in all competitions, recording eight goals and seven assists in regular season play, in addition to an assist during Dallas’ 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run.
2018 (FC Dallas / FC Tulsa): Ferreira made one substitute appearance for Dallas against Chicago (July 14) before being loaned to FC Tulsa on May 8. He made 14 appearances (10 starts) for the USL Championship side, scoring six goals, including a hat trick against Tacoma Defiance (September 6).
2017 (FC Dallas): Ferreira made his MLS against Real Salt Lake in a substitute appearance (June 3), scoring a goal in the 89th minute in a 6-2 win, his only appearance of the year for the First Team.
Ferreira has 23 appearances (17 starts) and 15 goals for the United States Men’s National Team since making his debut in a friendly against Costa Rica on February 1, 2020. He made six appearances (two starts) for the USMNT in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, scoring a goal against Panama (March 28, 2022). Following qualification, he was selected to be a member of the 2022 FIFA Cup World Cup team in Qatar, starting in the Quarterfinals against the Netherlands (December 13, 2022). Ferreira was part of the USMNT’s squad during the 2022-2023 Concacaf Nations League, appearing in two matches during the title-winning run in the tournament, scoring all four of his goals in a match against Grenada (June 11, 2011). Ferreira also started all five of his matches in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, scoring seven goals during the tournament run, including two hat tricks against St. Kitts and Nevis (June 29, 2023) and Trinidad and Tobago (July 3, 2023).
Born in Colombia, Ferreira first joined the FC Dallas Academy at the age of eight, when his father, former MLS MVP David Ferreira, signed with FC Dallas in 2009. Ferreira was part of the FC Dallas U-16 Academy team that won the 2015-2016 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Championship and the 2017 Dallas Cup Super Group.
