TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Re-signed
Toronto FC have re-signed defenders Justin Morrow and Eriq Zavaleta, the club announced Tuesday. The pair were out of contract after last year.
Morrow, 33, returns for his eighth season with the club and is signed through 2021. He has made 186 regular-season appearances with Toronto and has made the second-most all-time appearances in TFC history.
âJustin has been a fixture with TFC and itâs great to have him signed,â GM Ali Curtis said in a club statement. âHis versatility on the field, veteran presence in the locker room and overall leadership on and off the field have been critical for the club for a long time and weâre thrilled that will continue.â
Morrow was an integral part of TFC's 2017 treble-winning team, lifting MLS Cup, the Canadian Championship and the Supporters' Shield. He was originally acquired in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2013, after making 72 appearances with the club.
Zavaleta, 28, has spent the last six seasons in Toronto. He has made 104 MLS appearances with the club, though made just five in 2020. He began his time in MLS with the Seattle Sounders then Chivas USA for a season each.
âEriq is another veteran whoâs given a lot to the club,â said Curtis. âThis is a big year for Eriq. He comes to the training ground every day ready to work and is a great role model as an all-around professional for our young players.â
