As feared when the forward was carted off the training field on Tuesday, the Seattle Sounders confirmed that Will Bruin has suffered a torn ACL.
Bruin, 29, has two goals and an assist in nine appearances (four starts) this season, working mainly as a reserve behind Designated Player Raul Ruidiaz – though Bruin was expected to figure prominently in the Sounders’ plans over the next few weeks with Ruidiaz away on Copa América duty with Peru.
"He does have an ACL tear of his right knee, that’s the official diagnosis," Schmetzer said after training Thursday. "Surgery will come after they let the swelling go down and he will have surgery in early July. He is effectively done for some time."
Bruin has been one of the Rave Green's more productive attackers since his arrival from the Houston Dynamo ahead of the 2017 season, scoring 20 goals and eight assists in 69 regular-season appearances for Seattle, as well as two goals and two assists during their 2017 run to the MLS Cup final.
