Report: Club América interested in bringing LA Galaxy's Giovani dos Santos to FIFA Club World Cup

The LA Galaxy won’t be there this year, but if Club América had their druthers Giovani dos Santos just might play at the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup.

A Mexican report indicated on Thursday that defending CONCACAF Champions League winners Club América are potentially interested in bringing along the Mexican national team star for their upcoming appearance in the Club World Cup, held in Japan from December 10-20.

“We’ll look at the cirumstances and if they allow, we could do it, but it’s not in my mind at this moment," Club América president Ricardo Pelaez told MedioTiempo.com.

“We haven’t talked about it, I wouldn’t anticipate anything, we have a great squad and I don’t want to disrespect my players players by saying that we will bring in one player or another. It’s still not a theme that has reached the board of directors level and I believe we have a very good squad to compete.”

Dos Santos could come face-to-face against Club América next spring. The Galaxy qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday, clinching Group D with a 1-1 draw at Trinidadian club Central FC, while América could book their place in the knockouts on Thursday; the Mexican giants would clinch Group D if Honduran club Motagua does not win at Nicaraguan side Walter Ferretti.
