TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The New England Revolution have acquired defender Joshua Wynder on loan from Portuguese giants SL Benfica through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, the club announced Thursday.
To complete the deal, New England sent Nashville SC $50,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM) for Wynder's Discovery Priority rights.
The move reunites the 21-year-old center back with Revs head coach Marko Mitrović, who was his manager when the United States made the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinals.
“We’re pleased to welcome another promising young player talent to help bolster our backline depth,” said general manager and chief soccer officer Chris Tierney. “Joshua is one of the most promising young central defenders in the U.S. youth national team pool and he is someone Marko Mitrović and our coaching staff know well.
"We believe we have the right environment to help further Joshua’s development and help him continue to flourish.”
Wynder began his professional career with USL Championship side Louisville City, where he scored twice in 45 appearances over three seasons.
His success prompted a transfer to Benfica, where he's made one first-team appearance. Wynder has spent most of his time on the Portuguese club's youth teams, scoring six times in 37 matches for Benfica B.
Internationally, Wynder has represented the United States at both the 2023 and 2025 editions of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
In Mitrović's first year, New England have leapt to fourth in the Eastern Conference (37 points).
