  • Departing coach: Ronny Deila (Oct. 19)
  • Interim coach: N/A

The morning after Decision Day, Atlanta United announced they parted ways with head coach Ronny Deila.

Deila went 6W-18L-13D across all competitions during his sole season with Atlanta. They finished the 2025 campaign 14th in the Eastern Conference table (28 points), narrowly avoiding a Wooden Spoon finish.

Club president and CEO Garth Lagerwey vowed: "We owe our fans a much better on-field product, and it is our unwavering commitment to provide that to this community as soon as possible."

  • Departing coach: Caleb Porter (Sept. 15)
  • Interim coach: Pablo Moreira

After nearly two seasons leading the New England Revolution, head coach Caleb Porter and the club parted ways in mid-September.

The split came with the Revs 11th in the Eastern Conference; they eventually missed the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Under Porter, New England won eight of their 32 regular-season games at Gillette Stadium.

  • Departing coach: Troy Lesesne (July 10)
  • Interim coach: Kevin Flanagan
  • Incoming coach: RenĂ© Weiler (July 16)

D.C. United and Troy Lesesne club parted ways halfway through their campaign. Lesesne joined the Black-and-Red ahead of the 2024 season, replacing the legendary Wayne Rooney.

The club swiftly secured his replacement, appointing René Weiler as their new head coach six days later. He brings 20 years of managerial experience, most recently leading Swiss Super League side Servette FC.

D.C. finished bottom of the league table with 26 points. They last made the playoffs in 2019.

  • Departing coach: Olof Mellberg (May 27)
  • Interim coach: David Critchley

Olof Mellberg's tenure with St. Louis CITY SC was a short one, as the club parted ways with the Swedish manager after just 15 matches.

Mellberg was hired last November, arriving after leading top-flight side IF Brommapojkarna in his native Sweden. Under Mellberg, St. Louis sat 14th in the Western Conference and struggled in the final third.

David Critchley, previously head coach of MLS NEXT Pro affiliate St Louis CITY2, served as interim head coach as the club missed the playoffs.

  • Departing coach: Peter Vermes (March 31)
  • Interim coach: Kerry Zavagnin

Sporting Kansas City marked the end of an era by mutually parting ways with Peter Vermes, moving on from the longest-serving manager in MLS history after 17 seasons.

Vermes guided Sporting to the 2013 MLS Cup title and three US Open Cup championships (2012, '15, '17) while leaving behind a monumental legacy at both the club and league levels.

But with Kansas City sitting last in the MLS standings amid a 13-game winless streak (all competitions) dating back to September 2024, Vermes stepped aside for interim manager Kerry Zavagnin.

In late September, SKC appointed David Lee as their president of soccer operations and general manager. He was recently sporting director for New York City FC.

  • Departing coach: Laurent Courtois (March 24)
  • Interim coach: Marco Donadel

Laurent Courtois became the first MLS coaching casualty of the year, roughly 14 months into his CF Montréal tenure.

An MLS NEXT Pro champion with the Columbus Crew's affiliate side, Courtois led CFMTL to the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs during his first season in charge of the Canadian club.

However, Montréal parted ways with the French manager after a 0W-4L-1D (one point) start to the 2025 campaign. Assistant coach Marco Donadel was named interim head coach.
