Houston Dynamo's Alberth Elis funds computer lab in Honduras hometown

Alberth Elis - Houston Dynamo

Alberth Elis came from a modest part of Honduras to become an international soccer player, and one of the stars of the Houston Dynamo. Now, he's giving back to his hometown.

A feature in Diez this week reported that the 21-year-old Elis, acquired on a full transfer by the Dynamo in December, recently funded a computer lab for his hometown of San Juan de Tela, along the northern coast of Honduras.

ā€œFor a long time, Iā€™ve been wanting to give back to my community,ā€ Elis told HoustonDynamo.com. ā€œI am part of FundaciĆ³n OCAD, through which we were able to donate this computer lab as well as deliver food, donate soccer uniforms and visit hospitals to give out toys.ā€

The lab is intended to benefit local children of the community in particular, most of whom belong to the same Garifuna ethnic group that Elis is a part of. The Garifuna are descendants of African and indigeneous Caribbean islanders, who now live around the Caribbean and coastal Central America.
