Charlotte Looks to Keep Cruisin’

Courtesy of a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Matchday 30, Charlotte FC extended its club-record and season-best winning streak to seven matches dating back to July 12. Charlotte (47 points, 15-11-2) climbed to fourth place in the Eastern Conference table and the club’s 15 wins trail only Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and San Diego – all of which have 16 wins this season.

With a victory at the New England Revolution on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV / Apple TV+), Charlotte would own the second-longest, single-season winning streak in MLS history (excluding the shootout era), trailing only the 2018 Seattle Sounders FC squad, which won nine consecutive matches from July 21 to Sept. 15, 2019.

San Diego Closing in on Road Record

Expansion side San Diego FC continue to impress in the club’s debut season, becoming the first team to clinch an Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs berth and sitting within striking distance of the single-season points record for an expansion club in its first season. Impressively, San Diego has been equally formidable on the road as the club has been at home, tying for the league lead with nine road wins, including six consecutive victories away from Snapdragon Stadium, entering Matchday 31.

With a victory at LAFC on Sunday night in Son Heung-min's home debut (10:45 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV), San Diego would match 2024 FC Cincinnati (seven games) and 2022 CF Montréal (seven games) for the longest single-season road winning streak in MLS history (excluding the shootout era). Both clubs to previously accomplish the feat finished in the top-five of the Supporters’ Shield standings in their respective seasons.

Minnesota Moves in on Club Points Record

While San Diego FC has garnered many of the headline in its debut season, Minnesota United FC (50 points, 14-6-8) has authored one of the best seasons in club history and currently sit in second place in the Western Conference, just three points behind the expansion club. The Loons, which sit fifth in the Supporters’ Shield rankings, have won three of their last four matches and have their eyes set on a club record with another positive result this weekend.

With a victory over the Portland Timbers on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV), Minnesota would tie the club record for the most points in a single season, which was set by the 2019 squad that accumulated 53 points (15-11-8) en route to a fourth-place finish in the Western Conference table.

Martínez Eyes Back-to-Back 15 Goal Seasons

Powering one of the hottest teams in Major League Soccer is New York City FC’s Alonso Martínez, who has five goals across his last three matches, including a hat trick against FC Dallas on July 25. The Costa Rican international, who finished in the top-eight in the Golden Boot presented by Audi rankings in 2024, has once again emerged as a contender for the league’s highest-scoring honor with 14 goals this season.

With a goal against D.C. United on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV), Martínez would join David Villa as the only players in club history to record consecutive seasons with at least 15 goals. Villa accomplished the feat twice during his tenure in the Bronx, score 15-or-more goals in three consecutive seasons from 2015-17. Villa earned Best XI honors in 2016 and 2017, while taking home the league’s MVP award in 2016.

Stuver Eyes 600 Saves

The league leader in saves in both the 2023 and 2024 season, Austin FC goalkeeper Brad Stuver has continued to play at a high level, earning his first MLS All-Star nod and continuing to rank among the league leaders in saves with 92 this season. As Austin continues to drive towards a berth in the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs, the club will lean on its stalwart ‘keeper to power that push.

With two saves against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV / Apple TV+), Stuver (598 saves from 2021-25) would become the goalkeeper in MLS history to record at least 600 saves over a five-year span, joining MLS Great and former United States Men’s National Team ‘keeper Tony Meola (620 from 1996-2000). Meola was named an All-Star four times over the span and earned both MLS MVP and Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2000 for his play.
